Negombo’s leading Catholic boys’ school, Maris Stella College, became a sports enthusiast socity.
MARISTONIANS SPORTS ASSOCIATION, affiliated with Maris Stella College, Negombo, and Maris Stella College, Thimbirigaskatuwa, held their 24th Annual General Meeting on December 2, 2023, at the Old Boys Association auditorium, 15/3 Mudliar Mendis Mawatha, Negombo, Sri Lanka.
The vision of the Maristonians Sports Association is to lift Maris Stella to the zenith of sports arenas while creating a sports-enthusiastic society.
The management committee of the association consists of 34 members. Seven (07) office bearers, twelve (12) secretaries, and 15 committee members. A secretary is assigned to a particular sport and coordinates with the school’s management, the prefect of games, the master in charge of sports and athletes, and the coaching staff. In keeping with the sporting requirements, motivational programs, tournaments, coaching camps, financial support, and providing sporting equipment to the athletes are some of the activities that are conducted frequently.
The association was founded in 1999 by four eminent athletes from Maris Stella College, Negombo. Namely, Lakshitha Udeeptha, Anton Perera, Nirmal Pradeep, and Terrance Perera.
Since its inception, twelve (12) presidents have served the committee. Shannon takes over as its 13th president.
The Maristonians Sports Association will celebrate its silver jubilee in 2024. Many activities are planned for the year 2024 to mark its 25th anniversary.
