Legends of ‘83, Empower Students Through Generous Stationery Donation

In a heart – warming display of compassion and unity, the 83 Legends, old boys of Marist Stella College, Negombo, 83 batch once again showcased their passion for giving back to the community. 

Responding to a heartfelt request from Rev. Fr. Anton Morris and Rev. Sist. Juliet of 

St. John Mary Vianney Clergy House to help them with school stationary for children, Maxwell Fonseka of 83 Legends kicked off the project in order to collect the necessary funds. R/EMB/ HAYES TAMIL VIDAYALAYA in ULLINDUWAWA, BULUTHOTA, off RATNAPURA was chosen to accept the donation on recommendations by Rev. Fr. Anton Morris and Rev. Sister Juliet.

With great enthusiasm, project chairman Maxwell shared the news with all batch mates, both in Sri Lanka and overseas. The response was overwhelming, as contributions poured in from every corner, demonstrating the unwavering support of the 83 Legends.

On Thursday, February 22, a team of Legends, accompanied by their families, commenced the journey to Buluthota to deliver the donated supplies. Warmly welcomed by the principal of the school, Mr. Manoharan, teachers, and eager students, a small ceremony marked the beginning of a momentous occasion.

The long-awaited distribution ceremony commenced, filling the air with emotions. Over 300 students were presented with a range of stationary, including books, pens, pencils, cutters, and erasers. The joyous occasion was made even more special as 122 primary students received school bags, providing them with a tangible symbol of hope and support.

The children’s faces lit up with sincere gratitude as they accepted their gifts. Their patience and discipline throughout the event were truly admirable, a testament to the impact that the 83 Legends and their generous contributions had made in their lives. It was a day of empowerment and sincere appreciation for everyone involved.

The total value of the donated stationery reached an impressive sum of five hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 500,000.00). Gratitude and appreciation should go to all 83 Legends, their families, and their relatives both in Sri Lanka and overseas, whose contributions and fundraising efforts made this initiative a resounding success. 

The impact of the 83 Legends’ generosity will undoubtedly resonate with the students of R/EMB/ HAYES TAMIL VIDAYALAYA for years to come. As their spirits continue to inspire, the 83 Legends have once again proven that unity and compassion can transform lives and create a brighter future for those in need.
